Bredo / Licence help

Your Bredo licence key

Your key arrives by email after you buy, and it is the licence. Keep the email. There is no account to sign in to and nothing to recover a password for.

Entering the key

  1. Open Bredo, then Bredo → Settings, and choose the Licence tab.
  2. Copy the whole key from the email. It starts BREDO1. and is long — it is a signed licence rather than a serial number, so take all of it, including anything that wrapped onto a second line.
  3. Paste it into the box and choose Use This Licence.

If you were sent a licence file rather than a key, choose Open a Licence File… in the same place and pick it.

The check happens on your Mac. Bredo does not contact a server about your licence, does not count your Macs, and works with the network off.

If the key is not accepted

  • Part of it is missing. This is nearly always the cause. Select the key from the first character of BREDO1. to the last character of the last line.
  • It was retyped. Keys are not meant to be typed. Copy and paste.
  • It is for a later major version. A key for Bredo 2 is not refused by Bredo 1, but it will say what it covers. Check the version in Bredo → About.
  • It was refunded. A refunded licence stops being honoured and Bredo says so rather than pretending the trial simply ran out. Your library and footage are untouched.

If the email never arrived

The key is sent to the address you paid with, usually within a minute of the payment.

  1. Check the spam or junk folder, and any filtered tab, for mail from bredo.app. This is where it is most of the time.
  2. Check the address you paid with. Paddle sends a receipt to the same address; if the receipt is there and the key is not, say so when you write.
  3. Write to support@bredo.app with the Paddle order number from the receipt, or the address you paid with. The key is reissued by hand — it is not lost, because it can always be minted again from the order.

Bredo does not stop working while you wait. Everything already in your library stays browsable, playable and exportable with no licence at all.

Using your licence on another Mac

Paste the same key into the new Mac. That is the whole procedure.

There is nothing to deactivate first, because nothing was activated: Bredo never registered the old Mac anywhere. One licence covers the Macs you work on yourself, one at a time, as the licence agreement sets out.

  • Moving to a replacement Mac? Install Bredo from the download page, paste the key, and point Bredo at your drives. Your catalogue is rebuilt from the footage; nothing about it is tied to the old machine.
  • Selling or giving away the old Mac? Open Settings → Licence there and choose Remove This Licence before you hand it over, then remove Bredo.
  • Lost the email with the key? Ask support@bredo.app and it is sent again.
  • Key leaked or published? Tell us. A replacement is issued for the same licence at no cost once the order is confirmed as yours, and the leaked one is withdrawn.

Getting help

support@bredo.app, written by the person who wrote the app. Include what you were doing, what Bredo said, and your order number if it is about a licence. If it is about a bug, Help → Report a Problem in Bredo attaches the details that make it findable.

Bought it and changed your mind? The refund policy is 30 days, no questionnaire.
