Bredo 1.0.0

Released 2026-09-21

The first release. Cards come in checked, footage is filed by day and shoot, and the library still knows what is on a drive that is sitting on a shelf.

What Bredo does

  • Checked copies from cards and drives. Every byte is read back and compared after it is written, to both destinations at once, and the card is only ever reported safe to erase when both copies match.
  • Filing by day and shoot. Footage lands in a folder structure you can read without Bredo, named from the date and camera in the files themselves. Nothing already filed is moved.
  • A library that survives unplugging. Clips on a disconnected drive keep their frames, their details and their place in search. Bredo says which drive to plug in.
  • Search by what is in the shot. Picture and speech are read on your Mac, on the Neural Engine. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Hand Off. The clips you pick, copied into one checked folder with timelines for Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, a contact sheet and an ASC MHL.

Before you start

  • Bredo needs macOS 26 or later on an Apple Silicon Mac. The picture and speech models run on the Neural Engine, so Intel Macs are not supported.
  • The first import asks for access to the folders you choose. Bredo keeps its catalogue in Application Support and never puts your footage inside it.
  • Without a licence, Bredo copies in 500 clips. Indexing, searching and checking footage you already have do not count towards that.

Known limits

  • Place names from GPS are off until you turn them on, and are the one feature that asks Apple a question about a clip.
  • Small copies for offline playback are built in the background and can take a while on a large library.
